November 30, “Jasmine Villegas” was a #2 trending topic on Twitter! This is something that rarely happens, and while it was trending, Jasmine tweeted “I love the jasminators we are trending worldwide :) I love how she always says WE instead of I.

Also, after the trend, Jasmine reconsidered her name and decided that since she is turning 18 soon, she is changing her name from Jasmine V to Jasmine Villegas to sound more mature as an artist.

It has been rumored for awhile that Nick Jonas and Jasmine Villegas (more commonly known as Jasmine V.) were planning to do a duet together.  Now Jasmine has verified that rumor!  As Jasmine recently told Latina magazine, “A couple of weeks ago I was in the studio with him. We’re writing a song together. He was by his piano and we started brainstorming. The song is basically about going through a relationship and knowing that it takes a man to love me, as I’m growing into a young lady.”

Sounds like a great theme for a song!  Jasmine has been lucky enough to work with many of today’s hottest young stars.  Besides the duet with Nick, Jasmine was also in Justin Bieber’s music video “Baby” (she played Bieber’s love interest).  Even more exciting, Jasmine had the privilege of being an opening act for some of Justin’s concerts last year.

Jasmine has also worked with Kanye West, Frankie J, Sean Kingston, Damon Wayans, Hillary Duff and Raven Symone over the last few years.  Mostly she has made guest appearances on tv shows and music videos, but now it looks like her career as a pop singer is really starting to take off.

So what do you think of the collaboration?  Do you think Jasmine and Nick will make a good team?  I asked several local teenagers here in Dayton, Ohio what they thought about the duet, but most of them had never heard of Jasmine V.  Hopefully as Jasmine’s career continues to grow, her name will become more familiar to her target audience.

Don’t call her Justin Bieber’s “Baby” because Jasmine Villegas is ready to make her own name in pop music—and she’s worked hard for it! From performing at high schools to preparing for a world tour in less than three weeks, Jasmine V proves that it pays to follow your dreams.
And she’s no diva, either. Just like a lot of your friends, you can find her bowling with her friends or hanging out at Walmart, in her downtime! It’s just that when she’s not hitting up the bowling lanes, she’s living every girl’s dream, singing her heart out and sharing a stage with Justin Bieber (no big deal!).
Here’s what Jasmine had to say about life on tour with Justin, what she likes to do on her days off.

17: What do you guys do when you have downtime on the tour bus?

JV: Some off days are travel days, so we spend a lot of time on the bus. Our favorite place to stop is Walmart because they’re open 24 hours. We rent RedBox movies and buy a bunch of stuff that we don’t really need. I must have 20 different beanies from Walmart. They’re all on the bus. When I see something cute, I buy it! So I have a lot of scarves and purses from there as well. We also like to go bowling when we can. I love to bowl!

17: It sounds like you’re having a blast on tour! But do you ever get tired of being around guys all of the time?

JV: After being with the same people for so long, we do start having those little arguments with each other, but we argue about the dumbest stuff—like snacks! We have a rule on the bus: if you leave your trash on the bus, it’s going to get thrown in your bunk. So Anthony, one of my dancers, has a collection of trash in his bunk. He has five Vitamin Waters, three apple juices, ten bags of chips…but he leaves it there! Gross!

17: So we posted on Facebook to your fans to see if they had any questions for you, and they want to know if music was the only thing that you ever wanted to do?

JV: Ever since I was little, I had a musical family. We can’t be in the car without listening to music. But I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was younger. I love animals. Growing up I had two dogs, four parakeets, five turtles, three cockatiels, a baby cockatiel and two hermit crabs, and I had to take care of all of them on my own. No pets allowed on tour though!

17: Your fans also wants to know: what’s Justin Bieber really like? What can you tell us that people don’t know?

JV: I think that he’s a really cool, down-to-earth person, just like any other 16-year-old boy. He’s just living out his dream and having fun. And you can definitely see that backstage. But he’s always busy, so I rarely see him. He’s always doing an interview. But he’s just a normal kid having fun and living out his dream.

17: Did you think he was cute when you first met him on the set of his “Baby” music video?

JV: Yeah! I thought he was really cute, but it was funny because I had no idea that he came out with his own music. I used to watch him on YouTube, and I was a fan. So when I found out about the “Baby” video, I was like, that’s the boy from the videos!

17: Is it hard touring with Justin when you know so many girls are judging you without getting to know you?

JV: They always assume a lot of stuff. But I think that they’ve learned to accept me since I’ve been on the tour. A lot of girls come up to me and are like, ‘I feel bad for judging you before I met you because you’re really cool, and you’re just like a normal girl.’ And it’s cool to see the change in people’s attitudes. But regardless, there’s always going to be someone that hates me—just like anybody else in the world. If there’s no hate, then you’re not doing anything right. And that’s why I wrote the song “Clap for the Haters.”
